Holy Face! It's a good thing I didn't mass produce any of the double breasted corsets yet! From your very honest comments, I'm thinking that maybe I shouldn't pursue this style at all. The pattern in it's current state was hard enough to draft and put together, but if I were to employ the methods you guys suggested, I think it would turn into a corset that took many hours to sew and would cost $300.
Thanks for your comments. I should definately do "blog preview" this with every style. Sometimes I THINK I have really awesome ideas, but they're just not marketable. I don't want to stick with the same styles of bodices forever, and I DO want to branch out and put my creativity to use....at the same time I have realized that wearable works of art are really not what everyone wants. I was even just looking for some more hats to go with my costumes, and rather than being drawn to the crazy ornate top hats from www.gypsyladyhats.etsy.com I was thinking, "Man, I would just like black." I feel like such a hypocrite, because you can't imagine how depressed I get when I drop thousands of dollars on all of these amazing luxurious fabrics, and then I have customes that say, "UH...I just wanted a solid black." However, I did the same thing. *sigh*
But you want your corset to be the focus of the picture, not the amazing hat. If you got a showier hat, people would look at the pictures and ask "How much for the HAT??"
ReplyDeleteAnyway it's definitely a stellar design! I'm sure it's still workable somehow: The back-lacing suggestion was pretty solid, in my opinion, but I know you don't really like back-lacing.
I know it's not really a "corset" thing if you eliminate lacing altogether, but what if you have the double-breast with the buttons in the front, and then four or five belts in the back for adjustability? Or is this just getting more ridiculous and expensive to produce >_>;;
I agree that every woman needs, as a staple, a plain black corset. One. As in, uno. But the rest...hell, the rest should be as fantastic as possible!!
ReplyDeleteI dont htink you should give up on this look, maby add your halter sholders and make the collare more like a suit collar, and maby insted of having the lacing at the sides holding the flap over you just usd the row of buttons as buttons and button the flap closed all the way down?
ReplyDeleteIf I remember right from the last time she explained the reasons for the lacing, she can't make the buttons "real buttons" if the corset lacing is beneath them, because the corset will lace up to different tightnesses on different people, which will in turn move around the button-holes. Thus, the button holes would need to be in different places on different bodies, and you're left with something that will only nicely fit maybe 10% of people.
ReplyDeleteWhen I got my black corset from you, I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't plain black-- it had black stripes with dark gray stripes. I thought it made it look much richer, and really popped out versus a plain black one. :)
ReplyDeleteAwww! :( I really thought it was a fantastic style, would have ordered one for myself once I had money! Perhaps if they were done as a special order you might still make them? But I agree with one of the other girls, those as a Corsair w/ the double-breasted button overflap would be very full of awesome! :D

For serious, I actually think these are amazing. The only thing I don't completely love is that it doesn't look as taylored as your other bodices. Other than that, good job. Awesome.
