Double Breasted! Because 2 is better than 1

It just occurred to me, I hadn't really shown anyone my double breasted corsets! Here's where I jumped the gun a bit. Usually, when I design something, I throw several of them on etsy or ebay just to see if they sell and to figure out if people actually like them. THEN, after really testing the market, I'll draft all the sizes of the pattern, go through a couple of revisions, and then offer them on my website. However, we were wanting to do a steampunk style photoshoot, and I just HAD to have some of these on the lovely girls I used for my models! Anyhow, so now that I've actually got them, I would like to ask your opinion!

So, how this works is it's a normal overbust corset, but then it has half lapel collars up at the top, and there's a flap that folds over the lacings and creates the "double breasted" look. It fastens with pieces of elastic that come out from the side of the flap and hook onto 3 buttons alongside the side seam. Anyway, I would REALLY like some honest opinions on the thing. If you guys think it sucks, then tell me very nicely.....However, if you really think it's swell, or you think it WOULD be swell if I made some changes, let me know!

  1. I think the style is super fun and has a lot of potential for some lovely ensembles, but I don't like how the corset seems to wrinkle around the top pairs of buttons. I know it's not always possible to be without wrinkles, but I think I would like them better if had a bit more... starched sort of look, perhaps?

  2. I love these! They look so fantastic, but when I look at them, I find myself looking for shoulders or a collar! I think they'd look a lot better with some kind of a collar, like... like a double-breasted Corsair bodice.

  3. Oh! Also. An idea for an alternate to the string ties for closure: belt clasps. Since you've been trying to market some of your stuff toward the steampunk crowd, and since these things pretty-well SCREAM steampunk at the tops of their little fabric lungs, belts.

  4. I really like the idea...but I think the points on the tops of the cups look a little awkward and it lends an unfinished air to the piece. If they were brought down a bit...i.e. don't make the cups as full, so that the lapel rests on the top curve of the breast instead of sticking up like a flag, and then you get the potential for that yummy cleavage you're so good at getting with your other designs!

  5. LOVE the idea, but the cleavage-covering lapels are bugging me a little. Like jess said, a double-breasted Corsair bodice would be STUNNING.

(And I just looked at the zoomin of the first on, and is there any way to tuck away the ribbons? They're a distinctive feature, but with the double-breast it looks a bit awkward.)

  6. I think they look awesome! The double breasted concept is excellent but looks a little odd in its current incarnation - the fold just looks a bit strange.

I'll be interested to see how these evolve

  8. Both look slightly wrinkled around the sides, by the buttons. I expect the buttons would draw a ton of attention, so I'd want the fabric to lay just right. Also, can the shirt collar style pieces (the lapels?) somehow fold in or come off? I love the look for steampunk but I'd want it to be a bit more versatile.

That said if you told me that corset could be had for $99 I'd buy it right now. At $200, I'd hesitate and check my bank balance and then buy it. ;)

  9. I totally dig the concept!
However, the front flap covering the buttons looks a bit bunchy, and not nearly so neat and clean as your other stuff. I wonder if this is a function of the elastic loop style fastening? Perhaps make that outer row of buttons actual functional buttons, and add a back-lacing for the size adjustment. Or make both rows functional buttons a la Folkwear's Belgian Chef's Jacket, and have the back lacing be the only lacing point?

  12. I think I have to agree that the front is a little too bunchy, but the general idea is nifty and sexy. Perhaps a halter-style neckline would anchor the front a little better?

  13. I think this style is totally cute! I really like the lapels. If I bought I would totally make it into a dressy suit like outfit. I don't like the way the dark colored one is made, I think the lapels are too pointy.

I know you already posted a reply to this post, but I thought I would leave my opinon. :)
